Finding exactly what you want for your wedding, whether it be the dress, flowers, venue or a wedding photographer in Derbyshire, is so hard nowadays !
There is just so much on offer. The internet is a very, very crowded place and with no real differentiation between many different suppliers.
But, the best way to make a choice is to ask around for recommendations……. friends who have got married, wedding venues who recommend suppliers who they know and trust to do a great job, and any wedding professional who you come into contact with.
As a long established wedding photographer in Derbyshire I find that these are the very best ways for my future clients to find me !
Plus I’m always thinking up new ways to make it even easier for couples to book me ; such as my recent inovation of arranging a portrait session of the bride and groom to be, my ‘Getting to know you shoot’ , completely free of charge and before they make a commitment to book me. This way they get to know about my relaxed and easy style and just how I work to start the story of their special day.

I took this shot and sold it to the UK national newspapers and magazines around the world many, many years ago (I’m not telling how many) . While it may be considered very un-PC nowadays, this kind of shot was very popular back in the days when images were used much more for their own sake. Its still one of my favourites, and I defy just about anybody to conceal a smile when they first see it !
The usual advice to actors, and it applies to snappers too, is ‘never work with children and animals’ ……. but this really cooperative mutt simply sat there and let his owner and me dress him up for the shot without blinking an eye or moving a muscle.
if only all shoots were the same !

DJ Andy Kershaw , of Radio One and radio Three fame, is of an age where he can pop up from the past if you’ve crossed paths with him before. I shot him way back in 1981 when he, as he put it to me, was ‘station dogsbody’ on the fledgling commercial station Radio Aire in Leeds.
He and I decided to do a Dylan look for the public rleations shot the station wanted, and the shot is being published again after all these years in his autobiography.

When my twin boys were born it seemed the most natural thing inthe world to take lots, and lots of photographs of them !
It wasn’t actually intentional that I’d make a speciality out of shooting tinies (and also lots of ‘tums’…….. pregnant ladies), but true to form I got hooked on this incredibly engaging and often challenging subject which was also so close to my heart.
I was soon sending pictures (in the form of colour slide film in those days) to all of the national baby magazines of the time ; Practical Parenting, Mother and baby, Parenting etc etc. We now have a huge pile of magazine cuttings featuring my lovely wife Lindsey and the boys.
I do hope that you’ll take a look at my latest gallery, and if you’d like to have your own little darlings photographed then just get in touch ! My shooting style with little ones is as ever unintrusive, reportage, humourous and sympathetic. This is another of the ultimate ‘capture the moment’ subjects that fires my enthusiasm beyond mere commercial considerations and is a lasting memoir of a babies’ early years.

The Forest of Dean is the setting for this action shot of my (big) boy William. His arrival back to earth at the bottom of a zip-wire is captured the movie setting of our new family camera, a Panasonic compact that is shaping up to be my favourite piece of kit for quite some time.
With the Panasonic you can shoot movie and then with a few simple clicks grab stills from the movie……. which saves me the long term headache of trying to decide whether to shoot movie or stills on family days out. The still picture files aren’t brilliant by professional standards, BUT still produce a creditable 4×5 inch print and are certainly good enough for the web. Its also easier by miles to get action sequences like this !
